How AI impacts the fitness industry and made accessible for everyone

“If you don’t know what to pursue in life right now, pursue yourself. Pursue becoming the healthiest, happiest… The right path will reveal itself.” The quotation appeared on the feed while I was scrolling TikTok at 2:43 am on Sunday night. That’s why, on the next day’s morning, I decided to re-login to the Nike Run Club app, an AI-powered app to personalise running plans. Yep, I immediately went from a 0 KM to 5 KM run. Funny enough, the AI-generated voice cheering has motivated me to think that everything is possible! Perhaps I should consider entering a fitness competition, like Hyrox. I mean, what’s the worst that can happen… Right?

If you are a beginner like me, then you probably understand that being consistent is the most challenging part. But hey, we all start somewhere! And here is how AI has been a game changer for the industry, including myself:

AI-power personalised training that fits YOU

As a beginner, I often look up to fitness influencers or even AI-powered virtual influencers and try to adapt their training routines. I know it’s not wise to compare your starting point to someone who has been training for years. Not to discredit any fitness influencers or virtual coaches out there, because they actually know what they are doing. But thanks to AI-powered personalised apps like “Nike Run Club“. An app that I highly recommend for anyone who wants to start their running journey while keeping their budget low.

Nike Run Club App for fitness

Nike has leveraged technology to create a supportive and engaging community by providing a platform where users can keep track of their running progress and get audio-guided runs and feedback from AI-based insights or digital elite runner coaches. While keeping their users engaged with gamification, streak tracking, and friends leaderboards/challenges. Redefining how people approach fitness, proving that AI can make training more effective, engaging, and inclusive.

So, if you’re looking for a smart, supportive option that can run with your wearable medtech to improve your running—or just get started, then this NRC is a game changer worth checking out.

AI-powered calorie tracker for your meal

Here goes my favorite gym quote: “Work hard, eat harder.” Because who does not love eating more food? Another aspect of fitness that I learned recently from some fitness influencers on social media is that counting the daily calorie intake matters. Again, I am not an expert on this matter, and I do not have a personal nutritionist. So, I decided to use a tool that can help me keep track of my daily calorie intake. Saying goodbye to manually logging every ingredient or estimating portion size can be a time-consuming exercise. Because there are AI-powered calorie trackers that do the guesswork and count the nutrition for you! A good example is Cal AI. By using machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing to identify your food through photos. Then it will estimate portion sizes, calculate calorie and macronutrient content, and adapt recommendations based on your habits and goals.

Cal AI for fitness and eating routine

This is truly another fitness game changer for the fitness industry. Because it can help everyone eat better, train smarter, and reach their goal faster with a more personalised meal plan. But of course, we do the fact-checking of what we consume as well. Because AI will only use the generic data for food items, so there is still a chance that calorie counts will not be absolutely accurate.

AI-powered wearable for insights

Have you ever wondered how you performed in each session? What are your current stats? (If you are a gamer) Well, thanks to wearables like Oura Ring, Whoop Strap, Apple watch. Now you can see deeper insights into your progress, heart rate, sleep patterns, and strain levels. Making your fitness experience more optimised than ever!

In conclusion,

So has AI made an impact on the fitness industry? Yes! Whether you are an athlete, fitness coach, influencer coach or even an individual who’s trying to reach fitness goals. AI is definitely improving workouts, making them more efficient, and helping us work smarter, not just harder! Do you use any AI-powered fitness tools? It would be cool to see you on the run leaderboards as well. 🙂
